Watford City is rich in culture, scenic beauty, history, and new things to see and do. Founded in 1914 in anticipation of the expansion of the Great Northern Railroad, it is now one of the largest cities in Western North Dakota and the epicenter of Bakken Oil activity.

The McKenzie County seat is booming with the recent addition of the Rough Rider Center, which houses a state-of-the-art aquatic center, multiple sports courts, sheets of ice, and meeting facilities. The nearby high school opened in 2015 and is designed to facilitate collaborative learning. In addition, visitors to Watford City and residents enjoy more than a dozen city parks and 11 miles of maintained trails.

Watford City features a collection of unique shopping and dining experiences. Take in a movie at Six Shooters Showhall downtown. Enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants, including Outlaws Bar & Grill, JL Beers, and Stonehome Brewing Company.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park is nearby, as is the Fairview Lift Bridge and Cartright Tunnel, Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site, and Fort Buford State Historic Site.
